Learn More With The New Curb App https://www.poweredbyelevation.com/post/learn-more-with-the-new-curb-app/ https://www.poweredbyelevation.com/post/learn-more-with-the-new-curb-app/#respond Thu, 31 Mar 2022 12:25:00 +0000 https://poweredbyelevation.com/learn-more-with-the-new-curb-app/ At Elevation, we are consistently working to make energy more simple. Understanding how energy and power work in the home can be complicated. Curb, our smart monitoring system, was created so that tracking energy in real time is straightforward. With simplicity in mind, we are excited to announce the launch of our new Curb app.  Our teams have worked diligently to create an app that is easy to understand and provides customers with powerful information to simplify energy consumption. Here are some highlights to look forward to as the update is launched.

ENERGY SCORE:

The new Energy Score provides customers with an intuitive way to understand how their energy consumption changes each day. Each day, a score will be given that represents how efficient their energy usage was during the prior day. The score ranges from 0-100, with 50 being the average; as energy consumption decreases, the Energy Score increases.

We understand that each home and its energy consumption is as unique as the individuals in the home; with this in mind, we have created a system that analyzes home energy consumption on an individual basis. A baseline is built by analyzing past energy consumption that sets an average and range for the score of  each home.

A change in behavior like adjusting thermostats and turning off lights will impact energy consumption and improve the daily energy score.

Note: During the baselining period, customers will see a “calibrating” screen as the system collects data.

TIPS:

Our mission is to simplify energy for our customers. In addition to providing an Energy Score, we want to provide simple yet effective ways for homeowners to decrease their consumption and improve their score. The “Messages” tab gives us this opportunity to provide useful tips. It  also provides a location to find any alerts or notifications they may receive.

EASY-TO-READ CHARTS

In addition to a new Energy Score and energy-saving tips, our team created straightforward  charts that are easier to understand. The charts provide information that can help the customer understand their energy consumption holistically, breaking down what energy was consumed from the grid versus solar production, and the financial costs or savings of that energy consumption compared to solar production.

We are here to simplify your home’s energy. Contact us to learn how you can start saving today.

Are You Energy Literate? https://www.poweredbyelevation.com/post/are-you-energy-literate/ https://www.poweredbyelevation.com/post/are-you-energy-literate/#respond Tue, 21 Dec 2021 12:25:00 +0000 https://poweredbyelevation.com/are-you-energy-literate/ Our lives revolve around energy. It’s used for everything from producing the food we eat to powering our vehicles, phones, laptops, and homes. But few of us really understand energy. A survey by the National Environmental Education & Training Foundation (NEETF) found that most of us vastly overestimate our knowledge of energy.

For example, consider your answers to these questions: Where does electricity come from? How is it produced? How much energy do you use in a day, or a month, or a year?

The answers to these questions reflect your level of energy literacy. Why does energy literacy matter? Because learning more about energy, where it comes from, how it’s used, how it’s measured, and how it affects our everyday lives can help us make informed decisions on a global scale about renewable energy solutions and energy production.

And on the personal front, energy literacy can help you reduce your own energy consumption — saving you thousands of dollars in electricity bills and ensuring more efficient energy use in the long term.

Defining energy literacy.

The U.S. Department of Energy explains energy literacy as an understanding of the nature and role of energy in the world and daily lives accompanied by the ability to apply this understanding to answer questions and solve problems. The availability of energy is dependent on a variety of factors and could potentially run out. That’s why the U.S. Department of Energy developed an energy literacy framework, a set of principles related to what an energy literate person should know. It’s used as a teaching tool to help individuals and communities make informed energy decisions.

Understanding energy sources.

There are two types of energy sources: nonrenewable and renewable. Nonrenewable energy sources have supplies limited to what we can extract from the planet. They include:

  • Petroleum
  • Hydrocarbon gas liquids
  • Natural gas
  • Coal
  • Nuclear energy

Renewable energy sources can be naturally replenished, such as when the sun shines or when the wind blows. They are key to keeping up with the increasing demands of energy from our growing population. Renewable sources include:

  • Solar energy
  • Wind energy
  • Geothermal energy
  • Hydropower
  • Biomass from plants

Measuring energy consumption.

Energy efficiency means conservation. And conservation means reducing energy waste and making decisions to use energy smarter. But how can we make those choices if we have no idea where energy is being used, and to what degree? That’s where tech comes in: Use technology to measure energy use, then implement changes based on data.

Curb Energy Monitoring is one such example of an easy-to-use, at-home tool. A small energy measurement device attaches to your home’s electrical panel to track real-time levels of energy use per every appliance, device, and room in your home. The data can show where a home’s energy hogs are, if lights or other appliances are left running when not in use, and identify ways to eliminate wasted energy. Curb can even track projected energy expenses and offer suggestions for staying on budget.

Becoming energy literate.

The energy literacy framework defines an energy-literate person as someone who can:

  • Trace energy flows and think in terms of energy systems
  • Understand how much energy they use, for what purpose, and where it comes from
  • Assess the credibility of information about energy
  • Communicate about energy and energy use in meaningful ways
  • Make informed energy use decisions based on knowledge of impacts and consequences

You don’t have to be an expert to be educated about energy — you just need access to high-quality, real-time data. Then you can make better decisions about energy use in your daily life, which not only saves you money, but goes a long way to saving our world.

How The Curb Energy Monitor Works https://www.poweredbyelevation.com/post/how-the-curb-energy-monitor-works/ https://www.poweredbyelevation.com/post/how-the-curb-energy-monitor-works/#respond Thu, 02 Dec 2021 12:25:00 +0000 https://poweredbyelevation.com/how-the-curb-energy-monitor-works/ As the first whole home energy intelligence system, Curb makes your home as smart as your phone, as tech-advanced as your car, and as connected as your mobile devices. Here’s how it works.

What is Curb?

Curb is a comprehensive household energy monitoring system. Home energy monitors (HEM) are Wi-Fi enabled devices that are installed in a home’s electrical panel. Some HEMs show a whole-house snapshot of energy usage, while others — like Curb — offer real-time data on how each appliance and every device in the home uses energy.

How is Curb installed?

The Curb system monitors the home by using hardware sensors that connect to the electrical panel. This is the central hub that routes electricity to your home’s appliances and various devices. A sensor is installed on each breaker in the electrical panel. These sensors then monitor energy usage in the home and communicate with Curb’s software to provide you with charts, graphs, and visual overviews of your home’s energy usage — real-time data on trends, activity, even cost.

What energy insights does Curb collect?

Because Curb is plugged into the nervous system of your home, the information it’s capturing is detailed to the granular level. It knows which appliances are turned on and when. It tracks how much power they’re using. It estimates the cost of a given device’s energy usage. And it helps identify abnormal patterns of use, which could indicate potential issues with an appliance or can alert you to when an appliance or lights are accidently left on.

How does Curb help homes become more energy efficient?

Knowledge is power — or in this case, a power-saver. As Curb processes the electrical usage data of your home, it shares it with you in real time via Curb’s mobile app. The app pushes personalized and timely notifications, arming you with tailored information that helps inform your future energy usage habits. You can use the app to see how much you’re spending on electricity at any moment, connect to smart home devices to remotely turn things off or on, and receive electricity safety alerts. Curb also sends weekly emails that not only report your power usage but that also identify changes in your energy consumption from week to week. The emails even include tips and suggestions that are specific to your home and help you conserve energy — and cut costs — the following week.
